"As a young 24 year old Infantry Captain in Viet Nam, I returned home after 12 months in combat, to a family of former veterans who were proud of and aware of the dangers and sacrifices made by me and my family.  They worked hard to ensure my family and I were cared for and facilitated the transition back into the general society.  During my ensuing 35 year career in the Army, I recognized that the young men and women in our military and their families today have far eclipsed what I encountered; many giving up 3-5 years of their lives in repetitive combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan to represent America and give peoples of another country the opportunity for freedom. Much like the great Americans who fought for years in World War II, we owe this new generation of veterans a great debt of gratitude and need to ensure we do everything possible to welcome them home, care for them and ease their transition and integration back into the general society as we have done after every conflict."

Colonel Chip Castaing is another veteran employee of True North. For Chip, military service has run in the family. His father, Marine Corporal Claude Castaing, can be seen in the photo below. He was killed during duty on November 3, 1950, when Chip (Claude Castaing Jr) was 15 months old. Claude Castaing senior was a true hero...awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry in destroying several Chinese enemy positions and defending his unit's flank during night long attacks.

Like Father, like Son: Chip moved forward within the services and eventually joined the ranks of the marines. Marine Corporal Claude (Chip) Jr. can be seen below, right, with enemy soldiers pulled out of a tunnel complex in Vietnam, as well as below, left providing President Nixon and President Thieu (Vietnam) an honor guard in San Clemente, CA.

Robert (Bob) Luby Jr. is a retired Navy Captain of 20 years and one of the primary founders of True North Equities. Bob had the honor of attending the United States Naval academy from 1969 – 1973. Below you can see his “Plebe” first year photo. Next to his plebe photo is a picture from the eve of his graduation at the academy, he is shaking hands with our Congressman. 

Bob had an extensive career with the Navy before turning to the civilian work force. From 1974 to 1977, Bob made two deployments on the Meyerkord. His 1975 deployment was particularly exciting as it involved multiple historical events, including the evacuations of Cambodia and Viet Nam as well as the rescue of the Mayaguez. A picture of the USS Meyerkord (FF-1058) is below, along with a photograph of Robert on the date of deployment.

In 1981, Bob switched from ships to submarines by qualifying for Engineering Duty and moved to serve on the USS Nathaniel Green (SSBN-636) where he did a deterrent patrol on Greene out of Holly Loch, Scotland.  From the USS Green, Bob worked over 90 submarines between 1981 and 1993. For two years, he specifically focused all of his work efforts on the USS Lapon (SSN-661). Below is a picture from a medal ceremony in which he was honored for his work on the Lapon with his wife and three children.

In this position, Mr. Luby is responsible for the leadership and day-to-day operations of this innovative investment company.
True North Equities focuses on acquiring, developing and growing small- to mid-size companies, principally in the Aerospace & Defense, Cyber Security, Intelligence and Homeland Security areas. He has led programs and initiatives with the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and numerous other federal, state, and local agencies.  He is a seasoned manager, federal business development expert, and published supply chain and logistics expert.  Prior to IBM, Mr. Luby served as a Partner at Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
